Functional Safety Engineer

About Your Role:

  • Perform functional safety analysis in support of testing and delivering Locomation’s ARC product on commercial vehicles.
  • Work with a team of electrical and electronic engineers to understand ARC components and vehicle platforms.
  • Engage in the full safety life-cycle including requirements, design, testing, and support for both prototype and production-intent hardware.
  • Perform specialized analyses as dictated by best practices and industry standards: HAZOP, FTA, FMEA, etc.
  • Advocate for safety and be a subject matter resource for other engineering disciplines.
  • Enable production through the development of supplier specifications, acceptance criteria, testing and integration of production-grade components.

About You:

  • 3+ years experience in functional safety.
  • Specific experience with ISO 26262 (preferred) or a related or similar functional safety standard (e.g. IEC 61508, DO-178C).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills to effectively communicate with other engineering disciplines.
  • Familiar with the technical principles behind autonomous vehicles, e.g. perception, path planning, and control.
  • Occasional travel. 1-2 weeks per year.

Nice to Haves:

  • B.S. or M.S. in a relevant field.
  • Familiar with new or emerging autonomy standards, e.g. UL4600 and ISO/PAS 21448.
  • Understanding of AV regulatory environment.
