Software Engineer - Device Drivers

About Your Role:

  • Lead vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications engineering for Locomation’s ARC technology.
  • Select and test V2V hardware (chipsets, radios, antennae, dev. kits) for integration into ARC prototypes and products.
  • Work with control systems engineers to understand requirements for bandwidth, latency, reliability, and similar performance metrics.
  • Work with software engineers to ensure the integration of hardware with network stacks and application software.
  • Participate in lab, bench, and vehicle testing activities and measure performance and ensure suitability for real-world deployments.
  • Monitor industry trends and establish partnerships with vendors.


About Your Work:

  • Design, build, and test high performance device driver software for automated driving applications.
  • Interface to sensors including cameras, lidar, radar, and positioning systems.
  • Interface to support equipment and vehicle systems including control modules, actuators, timing, and network components.
  • Automate device configuration and management in support of configuration control requirements.

About You:

  • 3+ years experience writing high performance software to interface with real hardware.
  • Strong C and/or C++ skills.
  • Strong understanding of Linux I/O, e.g. TCP/UDP, serial ports, SocketCAN, etc.
  • Familiar with Linux OS concepts, e.g. kernel vs. user space, timing and clock types, etc.

Nice to Haves:

  • B.S. in computer science, software, electrical/electronics engineering, or similar field.
  • Scripting skills, preferably bash or Python.
  • Experience working with Robot Operating System (ROS).
